Feyenoord confirm Guidetti interest

Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel has confirmed the Dutch side are eager to sign Manchester City striker John Guidetti if he requests a transfer from the English club.

Opportunities have been limited at the Etihad Stadium for Guidetti, who has failed to make a first-team appearance for City since his debut in the League Cup defeat to West Brom in 2010.

But a successful season on loan at Feyenoord in the 2011-12 season allowed the Sweden international to prove his potential and he made the most of his move abroad, scoring an impressive 20 goals in 23 games.

The arrival of new City boss Manuel Pellegrini has raised doubts over Guidetti's future in Manchester, with Feyenoord keen to snap up the 21-year-old should he become available.

"Guidetti is in our hearts and the door is always open for him," van Geel told Dutch newspaper AD. "If a godsend occurs, we would naturally increase our squad with him. But I would like to say clearly that no concrete efforts have been made to get him."
