New Borussia Dortmund signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been ruled out for up to four weeks.
Mkhitaryan, 24, suffered an ankle injury during Dortmund’s 4-1 friendly victory over FC Luzern on Tuesday.
The Armenia international, who joined BVB for a club-record €27.5 million fee last week, had become an instant hit when he played a starring role in a friendly victory over FC Basel.
He was on target again on Tuesday night as Dortmund beat FC Luzern 4-1 in a friendly in Switzerland, but while scoring the goal that put Borussia into a 3-1 lead late in the first half, Mkhitaryan twisted his ankle.
On Wednesday, Dortmund released a press statement and confirmed he suffered a partial ligament tear in his right foot and will be sidelined for up to four weeks.
Dortmund face Bayern Munich in the German Supercup at the Westfalenstadion on July 27, while their Bundesliga campaign begins at FC Augsburg on August 10.
