Real Madrid youth-team graduate Nacho Fernandez was keen to show his gratitude to former manger Jose Mourinho after being promoted to the first-team squad.
The defender signed for Los Blancos as an 11-year-old and, after working his way up through the youth ranks, Nacho has now taken the step up under new boss Carlo Ancelotti, signing a four-year contract.
“I only have good things to say about Mourinho and words of gratitude. It’s thanks to him that I have been given this opportunity now,” Nacho said at a press conference at the club's Valdebebas training ground.
“I’ve spent years fighting to get into the first team, and at last my dream has come true. Now I have to work very hard.”
The 23-year-old also spoke about what it was like to work alongside one of his idols, former Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane.
“He’s close to the players and very communicative. He has shared a lot of his experience with us.”
