Trippier happy at Spurs amid Saints link

Hazard wants 'brilliant' Rooney

Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard admitted bringing Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge would be 'brilliant'.

• Moyes: Rooney back-up for RVP
• Blogl: Moyes, are you listening?

Rooney has long been rumoured with an exit from United, despite the protests from United manager David Moyes, with speculation linking the England international to Jose Mourinho's Blues.

And the move has received a ringing endorsement from Belgium international Hazard.

"Rooney would be a brilliant signing," Hazard told Sky Sports. "He's a great player who has the experience and he's still only young, at 27.

"He's got a few years left to play. But it's not up to me. It's not my decision."

Life at Chelsea is renewed under Mourinho when the Europa League winners face the Singha All-Stars, Manchester United conquerors, in Bangkok on Wednesday and Hazard revealed the Portuguese manager wants him to be more 'ambitious' this season, perhaps a view from when Mourinho tried to sign the 22-year-old when he was still manager at Real Madrid.

"He told me he'd asked Lille, but I wanted to stay there until I was 21 and develop my game," said Hazard. "I must have been 19 or 20 at the time. Real Madrid is a wonderful team, but I had so much still to prove in the French league. I stayed because I didn't want to leave too early.

"He told us all what he expected of us, what he wants to see. To me he told me to be ambitious with my game, to try things and that, if I do that, I can do something special this year.

"I told him I wanted to do myself justice, to do as well as I can, and that is all he wants to see from all of us. I hope it will end up being productive."

Meanwhile, Chelsea defender has told the BBC that he believes the Premier League can be won by "six or seven teams" this season.

"Squads are getting stronger and stronger. There's six or seven teams pushing to get up there," he said.
