Barca president confirms Silva interest

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has confirmed the Spanish champions are hopeful of signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva, with personal terms now the biggest obstacle to overcome.

Thiago Silva arguably best completes the modern central defender's checklist.
Silva joined PSG from AC Milan last season

Despite only joining PSG last season, Silva has been strongly linked with a move to Barca this summer as the Catalan giants continue their search for a centre-back.

Although Silva's agent, Paulo Tonieto, claimed on Tuesday that the Brazil international will see out his five-year contract at the Parc des Princes, it seems Barca will continue their pursuit.

Rosell revealed coach Tito Vilanova is eager to sign Silva, but admitted the deal is more dependent on agreeing personal terms than a transfer fee.

"Thiago Silva is a player we want - the board as much as the coach," Rosell is quoted as saying to Catalan television channel 8tv according to Marca. " When it comes to him, the price is not an issue.

"We are negotiating with people for whom money is not a factor. And if they're not willing to sit down and talk, we can't do anything. It's a matter of the player convincing them to come over here and start negotiating."

Rosell was also questioned about comments from former coach Pep Guardiola, who suggested there was a rift between him and the club's president after accusations the Bayern boss failed to visit Vilanova as he was treated for cancer.

"We've very surprised by his statement. You can verify what we've said about the best manager in the history of the club in the newspaper archives," Rosell added. "His words surprised me because when you're accused of something there should be some proof. We would never use Tito's illness and that's why I don't understand."
