Hull eye Bendtner move

Hull City are interested in signing Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner, a source has told ESPN.

Nicklas Bendtner is set to move on this summer.
Nicklas Bendtner has not played for Arsenal since August 2011.

The newly-promoted Premier League club are considering a bid for Bendtner, 25, after his £3 million move to Eintracht Frankfurt collapsed last week.

The Denmark international has previously played under Hull manager Steve Bruce at Birmingham, whom he helped climb out of the Championship in 2006-07, and Sunderland, during a loan spell in 2011-12.

Bruce has turned his attention to Bendtner after Burnley striker Charlie Austin’s proposed move to the Tigers fell through when he failed a medical last week.

The Hull boss has also bid for Celtic forward Gary Hooper, but has decided against making an increased offer for the former Scunthorpe player.

Bendtner’s salary, however, could prove a problem for the Tigers, who operate under a strict wage structure. He is thought to earn around £50,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium and Arsenal would probably have to subsidise a deal if City were to sign him.

But Bendtner, who has not played for the Gunners since August 2011, is not in Arsene Wenger’s plans and has spent the last two seasons out on loan. He was borrowed by Juventus last season, failing to score a single goal for the Bianconeri, having been at Sunderland the previous season.

While Bruce has also been linked with Watford striker Troy Deeney and West Bromwich Albion’s unsettled attacker Peter Odemwingie, it is understood neither figure prominently in his thinking.

However, Hull are closer to a deal for former Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper, who has undergone a medical at the KC Stadium. He is available on a free transfer.
