Dortmund 'working' on new signing

Borussia Dortmund are "working" on completing their fourth and final signing of the summer, CEO Aki Watzke has confirmed.

Jurgen Klopp will manage a different looking Borussia Dortmund side next season
Jurgen Klopp could have another new signing available to him.

With Henrik Mkhitaryan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sokratis already brought in, last season’s Champions League runners-up have reinforced their squad following the departures of Mario Gotze and Felipe Santana.

And over the last couple of weeks, Dortmund officials have hinted at the signing of another attacking midfielder.

“I could reveal a lot about this,” Watzke told Spox.com. “But I will know better than to do that. Only that, he does not come from a Bundesliga team and we are working on making it become reality.”

However, after losing right-back Lukasz Piszczek for at least half of the upcoming campaign due to injury, Dortmund have refused to bring in cover, preferring to give an opportunity to one of their younger talents.

“If somebody criticises us [for not signing a full-back] he has a lack of knowledge and no idea of the composition of our squad,” Watzke said.

“First of all we already have excellent full-backs. In Kevin Grosskreutz we have, moreover, someone who can wonderfully play as a right-back or left-back. And Sokratis can also play there. In Erik Durm and Jannik Bandowski we also have two interesting talents.”

Despite returning to Dortmund on an 18-month loan deal in January, Nuri Sahin has been tipped to complete a permanent move, with the German side believed to have that option available to them.

However, Sahin, 24, who endured disappointing spells at Real Madrid and Liverpool, is keeping his head down and concentrating on his football.

“My signing in January had been in anticipation of the new season,” he told kicker. “That was within the meaning of the club and was also a perfect situation for me. Right now I am delighted to be able to have a full season of preparation for the first time in two years.”

The Turkey international made 15 Bundesliga apperances for the club last season, but won only a handful of minutes during the side’s run to the Champions League final.

“It was clear to me that I would not start in Champions League,” he said, adding he had been aware of that before signing for Dortmund. “It is evident that I want to play in the big games in the upcoming season. Every professional dreams of that.”

When questioned about the best league in Europe at the moment, Sahin said: “For me that is still Spain. They have been dominating European football over the past six to eight years. But the Bundesliga is in really good shape. We [the Bundesliga] will continue to play an outstanding role.

“It hurt the Spanish sides to get eliminated in [last season’s Champions League] semi-finals. This will cause a reaction. I am convinced Real Madrid and Barcelona will come up very strong in the new season.”
