Romeu joins Valencia on loan

Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu has moved to Valencia on a season-long loan deal, the Premier League club has confirmed.

Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu has been a key figure under Rafael Benitez
Romeu graduated through Barcelona's youth ranks before joining Chelsea.

Romeu was widely reported to be surplus to requirements in Jose Mourinho’s evolving Chelsea squad, so the news that the former Barcelona graduate is moving back to his native Spain does not come as a major surprise.

The 21-year-old was viewed as a star of the future when Chelsea lured him from Barcelona in the summer of 2011, but he struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Blues first team and missed the second half of last season with cruciate knee ligament damage.

After numerous reports linking him with a move to Valencia in recent weeks, the move has finally been confirmed with Chelsea issuing a statement to "wish Oriol well in his homeland".

Romeu has been training fully with Chelsea in the last few days after overcoming the knee injury that kept him on the sidelines for the first half of 2013 and will hope to re-launch his career in La Liga next season.
