Giaccherini closer to Black Cats switch

Juventus midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini is leaving the club, coach Antonio Conte has said, and is set to become the latest in Sunderland's string of summer signings.

It is believed the two clubs have agreed a fee for the Italy international midfielder – reported to be around £7 million with potential add-ons.

Conte told reporters: "As far as I am concerned, everybody is priceless - but we have to look at the reality of the economy. Every departure is painful, but I understand the needs of the club. If you ask me if I'm happy [about it], the answer is no."

Giaccherini, who played in every Italy game during the recent Confederations Cup, made 17 appearances for Juve last season.

It is believed a move to Sunderland would see him double his wages, while the Black Cats hope the prospect of more regular first-team football will persuade him to move to Wearside.

Meanwhile, Velez Sarsfield have said Argentine full-back Gino Peruzzi will not complete his switch to Sunderland until Sunday.

In a statement, the club said: "Given the imminent transfer of Gino Peruzzi to Sunderland, next Sunday, July 14, the player and the directors Julio Baldomar and Eduardo Ordonez will travel to England to complete initial contracts between the parties and thus close the sale."
