One day after launching its Twitter account, Manchester United had already garnered more than 359,000 followers.
Valued at more than $3 billion and the world's richest sports team, according to Forbes Magazine, Manchester United was the last English Premier League team to run an official Twitter account, The Guardian reported.
The club, which has 34 million "likes" on its Facebook page, officially launched on Wednesday with this tweet:
New era, same spirit. The season starts here. Let's do this. #mufc— Manchester United (@ManUtd) July 10, 2013
By Thursday, the club was posting training videos via Vine.
The club also launched on China's Sina Weibo in Mandarin, according to the club's press release. The club said it will initially send tweets only in English, "with foreign language versions to follow."
Real Madrid, with 8.1 million followers, and FC Barcelona, with 9.4 million followers, are the world's leading football clubs on Twitter.
