City 'one of world's best teams'

Fernandinho has said he believes Manchester City are one of the world's top teams and hopes his move to the Etihad Stadium will propel him into Brazil's World Cup squad.

• Jolly: Pellegrini's holistic hotseat
• New boss wants more firepower
• Curtis: The master's voice
• New boss to cut spending

The 28-year-old midfielder joined City from Shakhtar Donetsk in a £30 million deal last month and said his new employers' global fame had brought him attention in his homeland.

"In Ukraine, as well as in Brazil, Manchester City are now considered one of the best teams in the world, and after I signed people back home in Brazil congratulated me for signing for one of the top teams in the world," he said.

Fernandinho was City's first summer signing and had been their top transfer target - something he said made him feel "very good" and determined to justify their faith.

He added: "I think that was very important for me, and I want to repay the club for what they have done for me by playing well on the pitch and winning as many trophies as possible."

Fernandinho has only won five caps for Brazil but believes that, if he excels in Manchester, he will come into further contention for the Selecao.

"My first aim is to play well for my club, Manchester City, and if I do I am sure that will come to the attention of the national manager," he added.

Fernandinho won the Ukrainian Premier League six times in his spell at Shakhtar, all under the management of Mircea Lucescu, and he said he would have to get used to playing for new City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

He explained: "I think it will be slightly different because I spent eight years with the same manager. Our relationship was fantastic, and I hope I will build the same relationship with Mr Pellegrini.

"I think the main challenge for me is a different style compared with my last team, and the amount of games during the season is more than I am used to."
