Carlos Tevez let off with a fine

Former Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez had his Community Service Order replaced by a fine as the striker prepares to begin life with Serie A champions Juventus.

• Jolly: Time is right to sell
• Horncastle: Juve coup

The 29-year-old Tevez had been ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work as punishment for a string of driving offences earlier this year.

However, with Tevez's legal team successfully arguing the South American was not responsible in law for his inability to comply with the order, the punishment was reduced to a fine at the Macclesfield Magistrates Court.

District Judge Bridget Knight accepted there were circumstances beyond Tevez's control in his inability to fulfil the terms of his Order: "This is only a technical breach. It is not, I repeat not, a case of a footballer thumbing his nose at a court order."

Meanwhile, Tevez thanked the court in its decision which will now allow him join his new team-mates in Turin.

"I would like to thank the court for its understanding. I appreciate their help and assistance in this case," he said.

"I would also like to thank my legal team, especially Gwyn Lewis at Burton Copeland and all my advisors who have helped me throughout this case."
