Eriksen 'still hoping to move'

The agent of Christian Eriksen has said he is still in contact with a number of clubs regarding a move for his client, while insisting that Borussia Dortmund’s signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan does not rule out the possibility of a switch to Westfalenstadion for the Ajax midfielder.

Christian Eriksen has been linked with a move to both Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.

Eriksen has been linked with a switch to both Dortmund and Liverpool in recent months, although that talk seems to have dried up lately.

Shakhtar Donetsk confirmed the €27.5 million sale of Mkhitaryan to the Bundesliga side on Tuesday, while the Reds have opted for Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto instead.

Eriksen’s representative, Martin Schoots, however, says the Denmark international could still very much be lining up for a new side come the start of next season.

“Yes, we are still in contact with certain clubs, and that will always be the case with a player like Christian,” Schoots told sporten.dk. “At the moment, it’s difficult to say whether this contact will result in a transfer, so we won’t speculate now.”

Eriksen spoke of his desire to work with Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp in June, although the German club moved to deny reports that they were lining up a bid for the player.

But when asked whether the Mkhitaryan deal might end Eriksen’s hopes of a move to Dortmund, Schoots refused to rule out the possibility.

“There is always speculation about these things,” he said. “We prefer not to contribute to that speculation.”

Eriksen has a year remaining on his contract at Ajax but Schoots says the player will sign an extension if he does not secure a transfer this summer.

“Christian has already said that he will not let his contract expire and move on a free transfer,” he said. “He will extend his contract if he doesn’t move.”

He added: “This is the first transfer window in which Christian has been open to a move, but that doesn’t mean that he absolutely must change clubs. Christian can control the next step in his career, and he will only leave Ajax if he believes he can develop and become a better player at a new club.”
