Neymar recovering after tonsil surgery

Barcelona's new signing Neymar will need 10 days to recover from an operation in Brazil to remove his tonsils and clear a nasal passage, according the club's official website.

• Delaney: Neymar a welcome change

"The operation was a success and he is feeling well," Brazil national team doctor Augusto Cesar Lima told local press.

The striker left Rio de Janeiro's Sao Vicente clinic and returned to Santos on Sunday. For the next 10 days the 21-year-old will be cared for by his family and will be on a strict diet of soft foods and fruit tea.

Jordi Alba also underwent a similar procedure in Barcelona and the left-back will also be given 10 days to recover.

Neymar is expected in Barcelona on July 29 to begin working alongside his new team-mates after his €57 million move from Santos was completed last month.

The Brazilian could make his debut for Barca on August 2 in a friendly against his former club.
