Ancelotti: Pepe is not for sale

Carlo Ancelotti has told the Real Madrid board in no uncertain terms that he wants Pepe to stay at the Bernabeu, according to Spanish daily Marca.

Pepe's absence will likely end any chance fellow centre-back Ricardo Carvalho had of leaving Real Madrid in January
Pepe has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu this summer.

The newspaper claims there have already been a number of offers for the centre-back, who was ostracised by Jose Mourinho after speaking out in defence of Iker Casillas during the pair’s spat last season.

Manchester City are believed to have lodged a bid of €25 million for Pepe but Ancelotti is adamant that the defender is going nowhere.

Brazil-born but a Portugal international, Pepe impressed at Porto before joining Real Madrid in 2007. He is a player who often courts controversy, once throwing kicks and punches at Getafe players Javier Casquero and Juan Angel Albin after conceding a penalty in the dying minutes of a game in the 2008-2009 season - an incident that saw him sent off and hit with a ten-match ban.

Last season he suggested that Casillas “deserved more respect” and while his comments infuriated then manager Jose Mourinho, they were appreciated by his team-mates who are eager for the defender to stay at the Bernabeu.

With Gonzalo Higuain’s departure seemingly imminent, Pepe would become the fourth longest-serving player in the current Real Madrid squad, behind Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo.
