Mancini backs Dzeko for Napoli

Roberto Mancini has told Napoli that Edin Dzeko would guarantee them 25 goals a season if they were to sign the Bosnian.

Dzeko signed for City from Wolfsburg.

- Time is right for Negredo

The Manchester City forward has been linked with the Serie A side as they consider replacements for Edinson Cavani, who is likely to leave this summer.

And Mancini, who managed Dzeko at the Etihad Stadium before his sacking in May, believes the former Wolfsburg player would be ideal.

- Curtis Man City left to pick from best of the rest

"If Napoli take Dzeko, they would be safe," Mancini said in the Sun. "They would get a great striker who gets 25 [goals] a season and only has one defect - that he wants to play in every game."

Dzeko was unhappy that he was often used as a substitute by Mancini and has become unsettled after falling down the pecking order.

But when City sold Carlos Tevez to Juventus, it appeared that he was likely to stay with the FA Cup finalists, whose only other senior striker is Sergio Aguero.

However, new manager Manuel Pellegrini has made the signing of an attacker a priority, with Sevilla forward Alvaro Negredo the favourite to arrive, so Dzeko could be sold.

Before his dismissal, Mancini had wanted to bring Cavani to Manchester and a part-exchange deal involving Dzeko was mooted.
