Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to return home early from Bayern Munich's pre-season training camp in Italy.
The 28-year-old was with team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt and physio Gerry Hoffman as they returned to Munich.
The club say there is no cause for concern and the decision was made to help the Germany international recover from ankle surgery. The plan is to have Schweinsteiger perform his own training routine and resume full training once the squad returns on Friday.
He said: "I can't say yet for certain when I will be back. I am taking each day as it comes and we hope it keeps going well but you have to look after your body."
New Bayern boss Pep Guardiola had hoped he would be fit enough to train with the squad this week but believes his midfielder would be better off receiving top quality treatment back in Munich.
