Leonardo, currently holidaying in Ischia near Naples, is reported to have held talks with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis in recent days as speculation grows that a transfer is close.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini had told Radio Radio that he believed the deal was now in place, while Le Parisien in France has claimed a transfer could be announced on Tuesday.

Leonardo, quoted in Sunday’s edition of Il Mattino, appears upbeat about PSG’s chances of completing the signing of the Uruguay international.

“We presented De Laurentiis with an offer that I consider to be very interesting,” he said. “The negotiations are ongoing. We’re still in contact and there could be news in the coming days.”
