Pizarro signs new Bayern deal
Bayern Munich's veteran striker Claudio Pizarro has signed a new one-year contract at the club, keeping him with the European champions until June 2014.
The Peru international returned to the Treble-winners last summer following spells at Chelsea and Werder Bremen. His six league goals extended his record as the leading non-German scorer in Bundesliga history to 167.
"I am 34 - nothing better could happen to me than signing a contract with Bayern again," he told Bayern's official website. "I'm convinced we'll have a good year together."
Given his age and his place in the pecking order at Bayern, Pizarro's extended stay may be in part down to the link he can help provide between new manager Pep Guardiola and the rest of the squad.
"We've had a talk," he said. "[Guardiola] was delighted he could speak Spanish with me.
"I can't say what might happen a year from now. But I'm feeling good, and I want to play football for as long as possible."
