Napoli enter Ogbonna race - reports

Napoli are reported to have launched a bid to steal Angelo Ogbonna from under the noses of Juventus just as the Bianconeri were finalising a deal for the Torino defender.

Juve are eager to tie up a deal for Ogbonna

Italy international Ogbonna, 25, is said to have reached an agreement with Juve, although talks held between the Italian champions’ general manager, Beppe Marotta, and Torino president Urbano Cairo on Wednesday failed to reach a consensus.

According to reports in Italy, the Granata have increased their asking price amid rumours of interest from Napoli, although Marotta is still confident his club will get their man and make him their third, and likely last, signing of the summer after Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente.

“We are going to meet with Torino in the coming days to discuss Ogbonna,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “We’ll just have to see what happens. Our intention is to buy him.”

The deal is further complicated by the fact Ogbonna is only half-owned by Torino. Serie A rivals Genoa hold the other half of his registration, meaning the Turin club must first reach a resolution with the Genovese side before being able to sell him on.

Meanwhile, Genoa are reportedly interested in securing the other half of Ciro Immobile’s registration, which is owned by Juve, meaning the Italy Under-21 forward could now be the key to two deals being reached.
