Rooney to hold crunch Moyes talks

Wayne Rooney is to meet with new Manchester United manager David Moyes next week with the striker open-minded about his future at Old Trafford, according to a number of British newspapers.

Rooney has formed a lethal strike partnership with Robin van Persie this season
Rooney's future is uncertain

Rooney's future at United has been the subject of conjecture ever since former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed the England international had a second transfer request in three years turned down by the club.

Moyes, who worked with Rooney during his time at Everton, is due to officially start as Ferguson's successor on Monday, and it is claimed that talks with the forward are top of his agenda, with the duo having fallen out in the past.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have all been mooted as potential suitors for Rooney, with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger hinting at his interest as he looks to bolster his frontline options.

The Telegraph claims that Rooney's "future is far from decided and all options remain open" while the Mail reports that he is "approaching the talks positively and is keen to start afresh with the new manager".

The Mirror, meanwhile, reaffirms the speculation of a swoop from Arsenal, claiming a £20 million bid is on the table and that Chelsea could make a "counter-bid" - although apparently the striker is "not for sale".

The Sun goes as far as to claim the pair have already had a "secret meeting" where Rooney - who has two years remaining on his current contract - was open about his feelings towards the new boss and the club.
