Lahm impressed with Guardiola

He may have a lot to prove after replacing Jupp Heynckes, but Bayern Munich's new manager has already won over some new fans

Philipp Lahm has told Merkur that he has already been impressed with new Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola's training methods.

• Blog: Guardiola: 'I am ready'

Guardiola held his first press conference as Bayern boss on Monday when he made an impression with his ambitions and also his grasp of the German language.

Plans have already begun for the opening match of the 2013-14 Bundesliga season when they take on Borussia Monchengladbach on August 9, and club skipper Lahm has said his team-mates have been receptive to Guardiola's ways.

"He is very communicative," the full-back told Merkur. "He wants us to learn to understand him quickly.

"You could see that there will be a lot of changes. The training was completely new to us from warm-up to stretching afterwards.

"Everybody is very attentive. Everybody has to prove himself anew at the beginning of a season, especially with a new coach."

Meanwhile, Monchengladbach's Alvaro Dominguez, formerly of Atletico Madrid, has outlined his optimism that his side could upset the odds when they face Bayern in August.

"I know how to beat Pep", he told Bild. "With Atletico Madrid we won 2-1 against Pep's Barcelona in 2011.

"We have the chance to win at Munich, especially on the first matchday because Bayern won't be at 100% then."

The defender went on to reserve praise for Guardiola, adding: "He is a super coach. He knows exactly what kind of football he wants.

"He will change little things like pressing or how to react on turnovers. He will make Bayern even better."
