Sunderland have agreed a fee with Velez Sarsfield for highly-rated defender Gino Peruzzi.
Already capped at full international level for Argentina, the 21-year-old made his debut in 2011. Having previously attracted interest from a number of clubs including Manchester City, Peruzzi confirmed an offer from the Black Cats on local radio as well as revealing the chance to play in the Premier League would appeal to him.
"We'll see if the offer from Sunderland for me suits myself and Vélez," Peruzzi told Velez radio. "I'd like to go to that club. From Saturday onwards [after the game against Newell’s Old boys] we will see what is done about my future. The football I like personally is the English, because of the pace it has."
The cousin of former Internazionale goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi, the Italian giants are thought to still hold a sizable interest in the defender after Javier Zanetti recently confirmed the club’s interest in him.
"I know that Inter follows him, is a good footballer. Playing very well and deserves to be followed," Zanetti said.
