Sporting KC recalls Dom Dwyer

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Sporting Kansas City recalled forward Dom Dwyer from his loan to USL PRO affiliate Orlando City Soccer Club on Thursday after a productive first half of the season.

Dwyer will be available for Saturday's game against the Columbus Crew.

"I feel confident that anywhere I am that I can score goals," said Dwyer, a production of Generation adidas. "So I'm excited to help out at Sporting KC and thank them for drafting me in the first round of last year's draft and for giving me this opportunity."

Dwyer appeared in two MLS games as a rookie last season but was loaned out along with three others to Orlando City in March. Together, they've helped the Lions to a 10-1-2 record midway through the season.

"We are always aware of the loan agreement that they could call him up," Orlando City coach Adrian Heath said. "We respect that decision and it's something we knew that could happen.

"He's a great kid to have around with a great personality," Heath said, "but we are going to continue on with our season. It's time for one or two players to step up and continue that goal scoring."

The 22-year-old Dwyer scored 18 goals in all competitions for the Lions, including a record 15 in 13 league games. He scored three goals in Orlando City's surprising run to the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals and recently scored in a friendly against Brazilian champion Fluminense FC.

"Dom has been very productive and in good form with our USL PRO affiliate," Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes said, "and we hope he can continue that same form back in Kansas City."
