Roma's Osvaldo in €18m Atletico link

Atletico Madrid are talking to Roma about an €18 million move for Italy international striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, the player’s agent has claimed.

Atletico are looking for a replacement for Radamel Falcao, who joined Monaco in June after two goal-laden seasons at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.

Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo had been widely seen as their main target – but Osvaldo’s agent, Diego Tavano, told Italian radio station Mana Mana Sport, in comments published by AS, that talks between Roma and Atletico had taken place.

“There are already negotiations about Osvaldo between Atleti and Roma,” he said. “There is talk of €18 million.”

Buenos Aires-born Osvaldo, 27, had a highly successful spell at Espanyol, scoring 20 goals in 46 games from 2010 to 2011.

He has continued to be a prolific finisher since joining Roma but has also been involved in controversies including spats with coach Aurelio Andreazzoli and team-mate Erik Lamela.

Tavano said another spell in La Liga might help his client, who has also been linked with Tottenham and Southampton, explaining: “In Spain, the forward is viewed well. The player has to find an emotional equilibrium, because he has incredible talent.”
