Pep mulls No.10 role for Ribery

Franck Ribery has told sports newspaper L'Equipe that Pep Guardiola has been "very positive" as he prepares for his first season in charge of Bayern Munich and could redeploy him as the creative focal point of the Champions League winners.

Former Barcelona coach Guardiola took his first training session in front of thousands of fans at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday as he begins his attempts to follow predecessor Jupp Heynckes' historic Treble-winning season.

"Guardiola is super-motivated. He wants to commit himself 1,000%," 30-year-old Ribery said. "He already speaks German well. Before training, he spoke to us in a very positive way."

Although deprived of a number of internationals due to the Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup qualifiers earlier this month, Guardiola used the 85-minute session to emphasise the rapid, fluid movement of the ball that had been his trademark at Barca.

And Ribery said that, once the session had been completed, the ex-Spain international midfielder took him to one side for a long conversation.

"He asked me which position I preferred to play in and whether I could possibly play as a number ten," the France international - who is usually on the left flank for club and country - explained. "I replied that I could play anywhere in an attacking position. He has a lot of ideas."
