German-born USA international Daniel Williams has joined Reading from Hoffenheim in a deal reported to be worth €2 million.
Williams, 24, who made 21 Bundesliga appearances for Hoffenheim last season, told Reading’s official website he was excited about the move.
“I see this as the next step in my career,” the holding midfielder said. “I am really looking forward to the season and trying to get the club back to the Premier League."
Williams has been capped nine times by USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who has called him a player with “tremendous potential”.
He has described himself as a versatile footballer but said he felt “most comfortable in centre midfield as a defensive midfielder” and promised Reading fans he would “give 100% in every game”.
Karlsruhe-born Williams emerged from the Freiburg youth academy. After establishing himself as a Bundesliga player at the club, he moved to Hoffenheim in the summer of 2011.
