Hummels laments Gotze exit

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has outlined to Sportbild his anger at Mario Gotze's decision to join Bayern Munich.

Gotze, 21, will ply his trade at Treble winners Bayern next season after they activated the midfielder's €37 million release clause.

Hummels admitted "it is a tempting thought to play for a big foreign club at some stage" but said he was disappointed Gotze chose to leave Dortmund.

The Germany international told Sportbild: "Everybody in our team was surprised. Nobody saw this coming.

"Everybody sees how good our team is. There was no reason to leave us. That's why I am angry, that he chose to leave this early."

Hummels lamented Bayern's financial clout in comparison to Dortmund's while expressing his backing for his side's policy of nurturing talent.

He said: "If they can buy our players and offer them eight-time their wages that shows how they dominate us financially.

"The new players don't have to cost €25 million. We don't need to buy stars. Buying young and rather unknown players and lifting them to the top level - I have no problem if we continue to do that."

Meanwhile, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc had told Bild he is "under no pressure" during the transfer window.

Zorc is confident to bringing in "at least three players that are really good", with the latest speculation suggesting Shakhtar Donetsk's Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a target.
