Monchengladbach sign Raffael

Borussia Monchengladbach have sealed the signing of attacking midfielder Raffael from Dynamo Kiev.

Raffael hopes to turn his loan to Schalke into a permanent move
Raffael also attracted interest from Schalke

According to Rheinische Post, the Brazilian has signed a four-year deal until June 2017, with Gladbach paying a transfer fee of €5 million for his services.

Raffael, 28, who was on loan at Schalke for the second half of last season, passed his medical on Monday and will begin training with his new team-mates on Tuesday.

The former Hertha Berlin player will reunite once again with coach Lucien Favre, who first discovered the player in 2005, signing him for FC Zurich.

“I am very happy that the transfer went through. I already wanted to join Borussia and Lucien Favre in the winter,” Raffael told kicker.

“I owe everything to Favre,” Raffael added to Bild.

Rheinische Post reports that the player could have earned more elsewhere, with Schalke believed to be interested, but still opted for Gladbach to work with Favre once more.

The Gladbach coach was equally delighted with the completion of the deal, saying: “I have worked with Raffael for three years in Zurich and then for another two years at Hertha BSC Berlin, he is a very good signing.

“Raffael is good for a team, not only as a footballer but also as a personality. He has got something special.”
