Reims keen to keep Krychowiak

Fulham and Liverpool are destined to be disappointed in their designs to prise Grzegorz Krychowiak from Reims with the Ligue 1 outfit determined to hold on to their industrious Poland international.

Krychowiak, 23, signed a three-year deal with the then-newly-promoted club last summer, and impressed in his club's first top flight season in more than three decades, scoring important goals and cannily knitting together the team as Hubert Fournier's men defied the odds and avoided the drop.

Though a clutch of clubs, including the Premier League duo, have made their interest in the former Bordeaux midfielder clear, Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot told L'Union Krychowiak would not be leaving the Champagne region this summer.

"At no time have we thought of letting Grzegorz go. From the moment the technical staff decided to keep him, it was case closed," Caillot explained.

"His representatives have told me of half-a-dozen clubs interested in Grzegorz and Fulham in particular are very keen. I simply restated our arguments. The player will stay for at least another season. We're prepared to extend his contract and look again at the terms of his contract."

Krychowiak, who has played in all but one of his country's 2014 World Cup qualifiers, has also been tracked by Bundesliga clubs, notably Hannover, Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt, and admitted in a recent interview with Polish daily Przeglad Sportowi he would be open to a move to Germany or England.

He said: "People talk about England, but there's not only England. It's just an interesting destination that a player owes it to himself to look at.

"But the Bundesliga interests me a lot too. It's an up-and-coming championship, and showed it this year in the Champions League. I'm not ruling out the possibility of staying in France. There are also great opportunities here. I'm really open."
