Hull closing in on duo

Hull City are hoping to tie up deals for goalkeeper Allan McGregor and defender Curtis Davies this week.

The promoted club have agreed fees with Besiktas and Birmingham City respectively for the two players and are now waiting for the duo to finalise personal terms and pass medicals before their arrivals can be sealed.

McGregor, 31, is expected to cost Hull £1.8 million and has been the side’s main target in goal after they abandoned their interest in Kasper Schmeichel when Leicester demanded £4 million for the Dane.

The controversial Scot, once given a lifetime ban from international football by the Scottish Football Association, has spent the past season in Turkey after leaving Rangers when the Glasgow club were declared insolvent.

Centre-back Davies, 28, is likely to cost £2.25 million as manager Steve Bruce, who has already signed Maynor Figueroa from Wigan, looks to bolster his defence.

The former Luton player has appeared in the Premier League for West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Birmingham.

Bruce’s other signing so far is George Boyd, whose loan move from Peterborough was made permanent after he helped Hull to promotion last term.

The ex-Sunderland boss also aims to bring in a striker but had a bid for Burnley’s Charlie Austin rebuffed last week.
