Liverpool complete Iago Aspas deal

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas for a reported £7.7 million on a long-term contract after paperwork issues surrounding the transfer were resolved.

The deal has been completed, subject to international clearance, 12 days after the player underwent a medical on Merseyside.

Liverpool confirmed the transfer had been agreed in principle on June 13, two days after the medical. But it is understood that confusion over who was licensed to represent the player in negotiations had to be sorted out before the deal could be completed.

Aspas scored 12 goals for Celta in the first campaign back in the Primera Liga after five years in the second tier, and was reportedly a target for Valencia and Swansea as well as teams in Portugal and Italy.

The 25-year-old, who can play as a main forward, a second striker or out wide, broke into Celta Vigo's first team in 2008, having graduated from their youth set-up.

A statement on Liverpool's website read: "Liverpool Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of striker Iago Aspas, subject to international clearance."

Aspas becomes Liverpool's third confirmed signing of the summer, following the captures of central defender Kolo Toure from Manchester City on a free transfer and forward Luis Alberto from Sevilla for around £6 million. Manager Brendan Rodgers is also hoping to welcome Simon Mignolet this coming week, with the goalkeeper set to join from Sunderland after a £9 million fee was agreed on Friday.
