Almeria promoted back to La Liga

Spanish side Almeria has returned to La Liga after cruising to a 3-0 home victory over Girona, sealing promotion with a 4-0 aggregate scoreline in the playoff final.

Surviving outside the Primera Division for the past two seasons, Almeria had a golden opportunity to return to the top flight after securing a 1-0 away win in the first-leg.

And in front of their home fans, the squad did not disappoint, Aleix Vidal Parreu scoring in the 17th minute, before a second-half double to Charles comprehensively wrapped up the playoff.

"Finally," Almeria captain Corona told Canal Plus. "All the people here deserve this and the team worked like Trojans."

"These are things you dream about when you are a kid," a jubilant Vidal added.

Almeria join Elche and Villarreal heading up to Spain's premier division while Real Zaragoza, Deportivo La Coruna and Real Mallorca pass them on the way down.
