Bayern pay compensation for Martinez

Bayern Munich have been ordered to pay €800,000 to Javi Martinez's first club Osasuna, bringing to an end a dispute over whether the Bundesliga champions or the Spain international's former side Athletic Bilbao would have to stump up the cash.

Martinez moved to Bayern from Athletic for €40 million last summer, in a protracted transfer which saw the player himself lodge the money with the Spanish federation to release him from his contract after the Bilbao club refused to even negotiate a deal.

It was not disputed that Osasuna - where the midfielder spent seven years as a teenager before leaving for Athletic in a €6 million transfer in summer 2009 - were due a cut, but a FIFA court was required to settle who had to pay it.

Diario de Navarra reported this week that Osasuna director Txuma Peralta said Bayern accepted the FIFA decision and agreed to pay the sum within the 30-day period set out in the judgement.
