Goretzka files lawsuit against Bochum

Leon Goretzka has taken VfL Bochum to court on Wednesday, filing a civil lawsuit against his childhood club, who don't want to let him join Bundesliga outfit FC Schalke 04.

The Bundesliga II club and Schalke 04 have been fighting over the Germany hopeful. According to German media reports the word "minimum" in his release clause is the subject of discussion.

The 18-year-old is under contract at Bochum until 2016, but both Goretzka and Schalke believe they have activated a release clause enabling the youngster to join the Royal Blues for €2.8 million.

According to reports in German press earlier this week, one word in Goretzka's contract could now be the reason behind the civil lawsuit. The reports suggested that the release clause states Goretzka can leave the club for "a minimum of €2.8 million", with all parties involved now insisting on their interpretation of the contract.

Late on Tuesday, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt had made it clear that he believed Goretzka will join the club in the summer.

"The player here from July 1. We have put in an offer with the club in due time and therefore it is inexplicable for me why Bochum now chances it.

"We have reached out to Bochum with various ideas to find a satisfying solution for both sides. But right now I no longer see a reason to continue talks with Bochum.

If the lad now has to take his old club to court that would be sad as had a good time at VfL. But now he of course is disappointed over the course of action. He has chosen us for the next step in his career," he said.
