Richards to open contract talks

Manchester City plan to open talks with defender Micah Richards over a news four-year contract this week, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph.

• Tevez unsure over City future

The England defender is set to follow team-mates Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Gael Clichy by extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium.

The 24-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal at the club he has been at since 2001. Richards missed much of last season through injury, starting just seven Premier League games. The right-back slot was filled by Pablo Zabaleta, who is also set to renegotiate his terms this summer.

"There are other players coming soon - Zabaleta, Micah Richards," Al-Mubarak told the club's official website on May 31.

"We'll make sure these players stay part of the future at City because they are really the core of this team.

"As much as we need to continue to invest in this team we also need to invest in the core foundation of the team, which is these players."
