Pellegrini eyes City silverware

Manuel Pellegrini has vowed to do all he can to bring Premier League and Champions League glory to Manchester City after he was officially confirmed as the club's new manager.

• Jolly: Ten steps to success
• Kelly: Pellegrini gets top value

Even though Pellegrini won't officially start work at City until June 24 under the terms of a severance and compensation package agreed with Malaga, the haggling over his appointment was finally brought to an end with an announcement on Friday.

ESPN reported as long ago as May 11 that Pellegrini would be installed as Roberto Mancini's replacement, but it was a confident Chilean coach who spoke to Manchester City TV as his appointment was belatedly confirmed.

"Everyone knows that if you arrive at a club like Manchester City you need to win titles," stated Pellegrini. "They have invested a lot of money to improve the squad, to try every year to win titles. I am sure in the next years we will win maybe the Premier League and the Champions League. We will try to win the lot.

"Everything is in place for Manchester City to continue to be successful and I'm excited to work with such a talented squad. I like attractive football, attacking football and I'm sure they will enjoy the way we do things.

"I am very proud to be the man that Manchester City chose to work with next season. This is the start of a new style of club and even though I had offers from other important clubs, I am sure we can make a great team and reach the targets here."

Former Real Madrid boss Pellegrini has yet to win a major trophy in European club football, yet he is convinced he has the experience to adapt to his first job in the Premier League

"I'm sure 100% I have no problem adapting to the Premier League," he added. "I have played against Manchester United in the Champions League, against Arsenal and I don't have any problems in that sense.

"I cannot wait to get started, but unfortunately I have to wait to meet the players. My message is to tell all the fans that all of us together can reach the targets Manchester City deserve."

It has been confirmed that Brian Kidd will remain on the club's coaching staff, after he worked successfully with Mancini during his spell as City manager.
