Suarez: I'm concentrating on Uruguay

Luis Suarez has said he is concentrating only on helping Uruguay to succeed in the Confederations Cup and will not be thinking about his club future during the tournament.

• Confed Cup Preview

Suarez, 26, who has said he wants to leave Liverpool and claims to have been victimised by the British media and the Football Association, said he did not view the Confederations Cup as a means of enhancing his chances of a move from Anfield.

The striker's national team face Spain in their first game of the tournament, which takes place in Brazil, over the weekend.

He told reporters: "Here, I come to play for Uruguay and [am] not thinking what I can do to benefit a transfer. My only goal is to win the cup," and added that "for now there is nothing" in relation to any potential move.

Suarez, currently serving a ten-match ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic during a match at Anfield towards the end of last season - an incident he said happened after he had "lost it" - has been linked with Real Madrid.

However, Liverpool have said he is not for sale and neither he nor his agent has informed them directly of his desire to leave.

Suarez stressed that he wanted to be appreciated for his footballing qualities, adding: "I had wrong attitudes, I recognised my mistakes, I apologised and would love to be valued more for my game on the field."

Earlier this week, he had insisted he still loved Liverpool, where he is under contract until 2016, but said he had to leave.

He had first hit out at the media at the end of May, when he first declared his wish to leave Liverpool at a press conference in the build-up to Uruguay's friendly against France.

He did so again on Tuesday, adding: "Ever since I arrived, I have felt bad - they have never judged me for my play but with the attitude that he dives, protests, makes gestures, racism... everything.

"They have never spoken well of me. For that reason, when I was told I could win the Player of the Year award, I said: 'I will not get excited as I know that I will never win an important award in England.'"
