Samuel thrilled with new Inter deal

Walter Samuel has spoken of his delight at signing a new one-year contract extension at Inter Milan.

Samuel, 35, whose old deal was set to expire this summer, will now be part of the Nerazzurri squad until June 2014.

Having made just 16 Serie A appearances during a 2012-13 campaign that was plagued by injury, there were suggestions that the defender may have been released.

However, after committing his future to the club, Samuel is desperate to show that Inter were right to place their trust in him for another season.

"I'm very happy to have renewed my contract for another year," he told the club's official website.

"Along with my team-mates, I hope I can give Inter a positive year and repay the club for the faith they've shown, since they still believe in me."

Samuel, who has won 56 caps for Argentina, first joined Inter from Real Madrid in 2005.

The defender's contract extension comes just days after Javier Zanetti also committed himself to Inter until 2014.
