Bacuna makes Villa move
Paul Lambert expects new arrival Leandro Bacuna to add an exciting new dimension to his young side next season.
Aston Villa manager Lambert has completed a busy week by adding the Dutch under-21 international to his ranks as the third signing in less than a week.
Bacuna has signed a three-year contract with the Premier League club after completing a medical and Lambert is confident the youngster will fit well into his emerging, young side.
"Leandro’s energy and versatility will be really good for us. He’s a good player, he has bags of energy and he will make an impact," said Lambert.
"He’s another player we believe will do well for us. He has played in big games and he has lots of experience for a player so young.”
Bacuna made his debut for his hometown team FC Groningen in August 2009, coming on as a substitute against PSV Eindhoven. He has played 126 times for the Euroborg-based club in all competitions, scoring 17 times.
He has also played for Holland’s prestigious under-21 team 10 times, scoring once against Bulgaria in Maastricht in June 2012.
"It feels great. It’s a new beginning for me and I’m looking forward to being part of this young, hungry team we have at Villa," Bacuna said.
With Danish striker Nicklas Helenius due to complete his £2 million signing from Aalborg next week, Lambert will turn his attention to trying to move on some of his big earners.
He has stated that he expects to bring in around four to five players, but acknowledges he will need to move on the likes of Darren Bent, Stephen Ireland and Shay Given to ease the pressure on the club's wage bill.
