Grenier waiting to hear on Lyon future

Arsenal target Clement Grenier is "waiting for answers" from Lyon before deciding where his future lies, the France international midfielder's agent has revealed.

Arsenal are believed to be keen on Clement Grenier

A clutch of sides, with the Gunners reportedly heading the queue, will be keen to learn what Grenier, who is out of contract at Lyon in 2014, decides when he finally hears back from club president Jean-Michel Aulas and coach Remi Garde upon his return from holiday.

L'Equipe claimed on Tuesday that the 22-year-old would remain at the Stade de Gerland this summer but not extend his deal with the club where he has emerged from the youth academy to become a key member of Garde's first-team squad.

However, Grenier’s agent, Frederic Guerra, told RMC that nothing has yet been decided.

"There are a lot of questions surrounding Clement's case,” he said. “To choose is to give up. Clement has told Jean-Michel Aulas and Remi Garde a number of things, and is waiting for answers. We're supposed to meet each other when he gets back from holiday.

“Things are going the way that Clement is perhaps going to stay, but the reverse is possible too. There's nothing definite, there are still meetings to be held. A career choice is not something to be left to chance. Are you really going to earn a year in your career by leaving straightaway? It's really a major headache."

Grenier's father last weekend told TF1 he thought his son would stay at Lyon for the 2013-14 campaign, while the midfielder, who made his senior international debut in last week's friendly in Uruguay, told the media during his time in South America that he had already made his mind up about his future but was not yet ready to reveal his choice.

Club team-mate Remy Vercoutre told Lyon-based paper Le Progres that he hoped Grenier would still be in the same dressing room as him come August.

"I really hope he stays at OL,” he said. “He has his head on his shoulders, he's got good people around him. Whichever decision he makes, it will have been well thought through. If he decides to leave, it'll only be because he thinks it'll be for his own good."
