PSG ultras arrested in Belgium

A group of Paris Saint-Germain ultras could face prosecution in France after being arrested in Belgium ahead of last Friday's World Cup qualifier with Serbia in Brussels.

Over 20 former members of Milice Paris, a PSG ultra group disbanded in 2010, were stopped by Belgian police ahead of last week's Group A encounter.

Aged between 20 and 35, the group, some of whom reportedly have links to extreme right-wing bodies, had crossed the border to swell the ranks of the visiting support.

"As they know that they're closely watched in France, where they are sometimes banned from going to games, these supporters favour matches abroad," a police source told AFP, who broke the story.

France's National Division for the Fight against Hooliganism (DNLH) had alerted Belgian authorities to "the presence in Brussels of French supporters likely to cause breaches of the peace", leading police to take action prior to kick-off.

Milice Paris was one of a number of ultra groups disbanded as a consequence of a 'clean-up' programme set in motion by former PSG president Robin Leproux to rid the club of its most violent elements.

The arrests are seemingly not related to the violent incidents which occurred during PSG's title celebrations in Paris on May 13, which left shops and buildings damaged after a 90-minute riot. Twenty arrests have been made in connection with that incident.
