Al Ahli coach Quique Sanchez Flores has announced that he is leaving the United Arab Emirates and is set to return to Europe.
Flores, 48, had led teams including Valencia, Benfica and Atletico Madrid, winning the Europa League with the Rojiblancos in 2010 before deciding to move to the UAE's Pro League in 2011.
He won the Etisalat Cup and President's Cup with Al Ahli, but has opted against signing a renewed contract and is expected to return to Spain.
Reuters quoted Sanchez as telling a news conference: "I'm really sad ... but for me two years is my limit, so I feel this is the moment to say goodbye."
Chairman Abdullah al Naboodah added: "With Quique's calibre, he will always have job offers from Europe. We tried our best to retain him. We will take a few days to put together a shortlist, but it won't be easy to replace him."
Gulf News has suggested that Aitor Karanka, Jose Mourinho's former assistant at Real Madrid, is top of the list of potential candidates.
