Gomez to leave Bayern for right price

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez can leave the German champions if the price is right, according to general manager Matthias Sammer, despite Borussia Dortmund ruling out a move to the Allianz Arena for Robert Lewandowski.

Mario Gomez scored a tap-in to double Bayern Munich's lead against his former club Stuttgart
Mario Gomez struggled for game time last term

Dortmund CEO Aki Watzke indicated to Bild and Ruhr Nachrichten on Sunday that Lewandowski will not be sold to Bayern this summer, following months of speculation suggesting otherwise.

It was believed that Gomez, who struggled for game time last season, was only set to depart the Treble winners once the Poland international’s arrival had been confirmed.

However, Sammer told kicker that the futures of the two players are “totally independent” from each other, and if the club receive the right offer for the former Stuttgart player, then he is free to leave.

Aside from Gomez, Bayern only have two other strikers on their books in Mario Mandzukic and Claudio Pizarro, who has yet to extend his contract at the club, which expires at the end of the month.

Incoming coach Pep Guardiola, though, is planning to use new signing Mario Gotze in a more advanced role, according to kicker.

Gomez, meanwhile, could be heading for Italy, with several clubs believed to be interested in acquiring his services.

According to media reports, Fiorentina have already offered €20 million for the Germany international, but will need to improve their offer to match Bayern’s €25 million asking price.

Gomez, who is contracted to Bayern until 2016, has also been linked with Napoli and Juventus.

The striker’s agent, Uli Ferber, told kicker that Juve are a “very appealing” club for his client, and that a decision regarding his future could be made within the next eight to ten days.
