Ribery scoops Player of the Year award

Franck Ribery has been voted the Bundesliga Player of the Year by his fellow professionals, while his Bayern Munich team-mate Manuel Neuer was chosen as the league's best goalkeeper but boss Jupp Heynckes missed out on the top coach award.

In the bi-annual kicker poll - completed by 228 top-flight players - the Bayern Munich winger kept hold of the top spot he claimed in the winter, securing 29% of the vote.

Ribery, who has just extended his contract until 2017 with the Treble winners, finished ahead of Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski (17.3%) and Bayern team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger (12.4%).

The 2013 Ballon d'Or candidate's ten goals and 15 assists over the course of the Bundesliga season was enough to sway the vote in his favour.

A much closer race for the Goalkeeper of the Year award ended with fellow Bayern player Neuer at the top of the pile.

The Germany international won 23.2% of the vote, just 2.6% more than Dortmund shot-stopper Roman Weidenfeller. Hamburg 'keeper Rene Adler was unable to defend his winter title, finishing in third position.

Meanwhile, a whopping 48.7% named Freiburg boss Christian Streich as the "winner amongst the coaches".

He was followed by Bayern's Heynckes and Frankfurt's Armin Veh, who dropped down from the top spot he secured during the winter.

When questioned about the best league in Europe at the moment, the Bundesliga players opted for the division which they currently play in.

A majority of 80.9% believe the German top flight is the continent's superior league, with 14.3% naming the Premier League in second place.
