UEFA has been left red faced after a DJ played a song that contained racially-provocative lyrics seconds before an anti-racism message was broadcast at the European Under-21 Championship.
The European governing body has spread its anti-racism message at every game of the championship so far, but before England's loss to Norway, it was preceded by a song that contained numerous references to the 'n word'.
UEFA blamed the embarrassing mishap on a 'misunderstanding' but promised a full review into the incident.
"There was a misunderstanding regarding the instructions to the local DJ about acceptable lyrics inside the stadium," A UEFA spokesman said.
"The process will be reviewed accordingly."
This incident is the latest racially-charged furore to hit UEFA and the England team after Serbia was fined £65,900 following racial abuse hurled at England's black players by the home crowd during the under-21 play-off in Krusevac last October.
