Melbourne Victory could pull off a major coup by signing Greece captain Giorgos Karagounis, according to a report in The Australian.
Karagounis, 36, looks set to leave Fulham later this month after making 21 Premier League appearances last season.
The midfielder has played for Panathinaikos, Inter Milan and Benfica in what has been a glittering career for both club and country.
It is believed the large Greek-speaking population in Melbourne and the loss of star attacker Marco Rojas to Stuttgart could spur the move along as Victory look to build on last season's semi-final appearance.
The Australian reports Victory coach Ange Postecoglou met with Karagounis and his representatives in Greece last week to discuss the terms of a possible move to the A-League.
