Sorensen waiting on Stoke future

Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen will hold talks with new manager Mark Hughes to discover whether he is likely to join the exodus from the Britannia Stadium.

The Denmark international, who has a year left on his contract, has fallen behind Asmir Begovic and Jack Butland in the pecking order.

It seems he will find a way back into favour only if Begovic, who has been linked with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea, moves on.

"I do want to be playing more and, if I am in the manager's plans, great," Sorensen told the Stoke Sentinel. "I am really happy at Stoke, and my family are happy.

"It was frustrating last season. I have great respect for how Asmir played. It doesn't reflect on my capabilities, and I have not changed by ambitions - I want to get in that team and do well.

"But I have been long enough in the game to know you have to wait and see."

Rory Delap, Mama Sidibe, Dean Whitehead, Matthew Upson, Jermaine Pennant, Carlo Nash and Matthew Lund have all been handed free transfers by Hughes, although Pennant may yet be offered a new contract.

And if Hughes is eyeing additions to his squad, Sorensen believes his compatriot Andreas Cornelius, a 6ft 4in striker from Copenhagen, would be a good signing.

"The former manager [Tony Pulis, who left the club at the end of the season] asked my opinion about him," he added. "He knew all about him and was monitoring him. He's talented and a good guy as well. He works hard and is a solid professional.

"He would suit the English game well. He is strong and good in the air."

It has been confirmed that Pulis's backroom team - Dave Kemp, Mark O'Connor, Adrian Pennock, Paul Maxwell, Dave Kevan and Gerry Francis - have also left Stoke.
