Bayern defend Gotze celebrations

Bayern Munich have defended Mario Gotze celebrating his 21st birthday in Ibiza despite the playmaker recovering from an injury which will curtail his first pre-season with the Bundesliga champions.

• Lewandowski close to move

Gotze's €37 million switch was confirmed shortly before Dortmund's Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid, which they won 4-1, but he was singled out for abuse by the same supporters that had previously idolised him.

In the opening minutes of the second-leg defeat against Real, Gotze suffered a muscular injury which ruled him out of the Champions League final and he is also unlikely to return in time for the start of the 2013-14 Bundesliga campaign with Bayern on August 9.

Earlier this week, it was made public that Gotze had filed a declaration to cease and desist against a Dortmund rap formation, who released an anti-Gotze song.

Pictures on his Facebook account showed him in good spirits in Ibiza, with a bottle of Moet, claiming he was "tired of all the hatin'".

However, Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has defended Gotze's time away, telling kicker: "He had a very stressful season, just like our players."

Rummenigge also explained that Gotze was treated for his injury during his stay on Ibiza, adding: "It has all been arranged and co-ordinated."
