Lewandowski close to ‘club of choice’

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is hopeful of joining the club of his choice - widely believed to be Bayern Munich - but has refused to reveal their identity.

Lewandowski, 24, has long been linked with a move away from Dortmund this summer, with the European champions believed to be close to completing a deal for the player, who has previously confirmed that he has reached an agreement with the club.

Outgoing Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes suggested a deal was already in place after last month’s Champions League final, while one of Lewandowski’s agents said he expected the transfer to be completed over the coming weeks.

But although fresh details of a move to the German champions have yet to surface, the Poland international says he is on the verge of departing Dortmund.

“I’d like to think that now everything has been resolved and I will be able to join the club of my choice,” he told SportBild.

Lewandowski, currently preparing for Poland’s World Cup qualifier in Moldova on Friday, went on to praise the club he has been at since 2010, but believes he is ready for a new chapter in his career.

“Dortmund is a fantastic club, which I will always admire,” he said. “But for my future I am wishing for a new challenge.”

Earlier this week, WAZ reported that Lewandowski, who has one more year left to run on his Dortmund contract, had already begun clearing out his home in the city.
